The Italian espresso makes a stop at the convent of San Colombano in Bobbio
The temporary exhibition curated by MUMAC under the auspices of the FAI Piacenza Gruppo di Bobbio is underway
Appointment from 18 to 24 July 2022 to admire the most beautiful professional espresso coffee machines from the early 20th century to today. A journey through time, design and technology through the habits and customs of espresso coffee, which has always been the legacy and excellence of Made in Italy
Medieval architecture, culture and traditions merge with one of Made in Italy’s historical masterpieces: espresso coffee. So was born “The Italian espresso between heritage and contemporary”: a real event that will feature several events from July 18-24. The heart of the initiative is temporary exhibition of coffee machines established at the San Colombano di Bobbio Monastery and curated by MUMAC, Cimbali Group Coffee Machine Museum. Sponsored by The FAI delegation from Piacenza and from Bobbio’s FAI groupthe initiative is implemented in collaboration with the city of Bobbio: the main characters are some of the most beautiful professional espresso coffee machines from the early 20th century to today.
Among these the Roma column machine (Rex model from 1926)that of Simplex rationalist style (1940)Leave the Cimbali machine Greatlight (1955)the piston one Aurora Brugnetti (1955)and Faema lever Urania (1957), the timeless e61 from 1961 and La Cimbali hydraulics Pythagoras (1962), winner of the Compasso d’Oro and icon of an era, And the semi-automatic and colorful Faema Prestige, pop pattern of 1972.
A real time travel, in design and technology which from the early 20th century reaches the present with the La Cimbali M200 models (launched 2021)La Cimbali S15 (which will be in operation) and Faemina by Faema, the new espresso machine designed for the home, small business and concept store environment that was launched in 2021 at Salone del Mobile.
The exhibition will also provide space for another type of art, the one from Milanes group of Urban Sketchers, local division of the global movement that unites drawing enthusiasts specializing in understanding the beauty of a place, understanding its differences, each with their own style and technology. An “exhibition within the exhibition”, therefore, which will see some of the drawings made in a live performance held by the artists during Milan Design Week 2022 at MUMAC.
The exhibition, with free and open access, will be inaugurated MondayJuly 18 at 6 p.m. in the presence of local authorities.
The second appointment of the event, the presentation of the book “SENSO ESPRESSO. Coffee. Style. Emotions “, edited by MUMAC and edited by Antiga Edizioni, where a picture of Bobbio’s Ponte Vecchio has been inserted as an emblem of the timeless enchantment of Italian beauty. The presentation will be held Saturday 23 July at 18.00 at Sala Daverio in the town hall of Bobbio with the presence of Roberto Pasqualimayor of the city, Letizia AnelliHead of the FAI Delegation in Piacenza, Edgardo FerreroService Director for Gruppo Cimbali and contributor to the book’s historical-scientific content, Barbara FogliaMUMAC manager and coordinator of the editorial project, Enrico Maltonicollector and co-founder of MUMAC, Francesca Trammacurator of the Corriere della Sera’s historical archives, among the archives belonging to Museimpresa, which contributed pictures and documents to enrich the volume.
