Summer is not over yet and although the temperatures are not comparable to those at the beginning of the season, the heat is still an enemy to defeat. One method is to find refreshment in the right diet, prefer light food and fresh drinks. Here are some examples of recipes to prepare refreshing summer drinks at home.
1. The lemonade
- 3 cups lemon or lime juice (so about 20 lemons and 25 limes)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 cups cold water
- 4 cups ice cubes
- lemon or lime slices for garnish
After squeezing the specified amount of lemons, pour the resulting juice into a large bowl, add the granulated sugar and mix to mix the ingredients. Then add the 4 cups of cold water and stir once more. Finally, pour the mixture into a glass jug, add the ice cubes and, if you like, garnish with a slice of lemon or lime.
2. Shaken iced coffee
- 2 cups of espresso
- 5-6 ice cubes
- sugar to taste
- liqueur of your choice to taste
Put the coffee, desired amount of sugar and the ice cubes in the shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for a few minutes until a dense foam has formed on the surface. Serve and … please! A perfectly shaken coffee can be recognized by the foam, which must be at least half a centimeter high per glass.
3. Water-based coffee creamer
Ingredients (for 6 people portions)
- 40 g instant coffee
- 250 ml cold water
- 200 g caster sugar
First put the water in the freezer for about 15 minutes, to use it at the lowest possible temperature. On the other hand, pour the instant coffee and sugar into a large bowl. Stir and add the water previously taken from the freezer. Using an electric whisk, mix the ingredients for the coffee cream for 5-10 minutes until you get a thick and frothy cream. Portion the freshly prepared cream into small glasses or cups and serve.
4. Homemade fruit juice
Here’s how to make excellent fruit juices that can be consumed immediately (or stored for up to two days in the refrigerator) in two simple steps: prepare a base of water and sugar syrup and add the desired type of fruit.
So here’s how to prepare the syrup.
- 1 and a half liters of natural water
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
Put on the fire a pot with water and sugar in the indicated amounts, boil for a few minutes, remove from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Then store in the fridge for about two hours.
After the agreed time, cut a selected fruit into small pieces and put it in the blender along with a cup of sugar syrup. Strain the fruit juice with a colander, put it in a glass and serve.
Leftover syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days.
