AURONZO DI CADORE. “It’s the first one closed for holidays after 110 years of operation“. That’s how Francesco Corte Metto61 years old and manager of the bar for many “All’Hostaria” in via Cella, he decided together with his family to closed for a week in June last year. The message came via a Facebook post from her daughter Valentinawho since last year has taken his father’s place as owner of the historic bar.

For 5 generations the bar has always been in the business in the service of society: “We have always taken vacations over the years – says Corte Metto interviewed by The Dolomites but for the first time in the history of the club, instead of covering the shifts with change, we decided to close completely. A choice that for me almost was suffered“.

This place, “like so many others in the mountain villages – explains Corte Metto – is not just one tobacco bar but a place of association and sociality for the whole community. We always open at 5 in the morning: many pass here worker who drinks coffee early in the morning. We never wanted to stop just because for me it has always been a “task”, a mission to be present here. However, I felt compelled to never interrupt basic“.

A reality that exists since 1912founded by great grandmother of Corte Metto, and then proceed to grandmother and follow mother. “Four women in 4 different generations they had this bar in their hands, where I started working officially since 1993 to then take my mother’s place, after working in an eyeglass shop for 17 years of the area. Now it is managed by my daughter Valentina, after I retired, but also my wife and I we continue to be present“.

A place that has always been one landmark for the area“we always wanted to welcome us, when it was also there kitchen – he concludes – we are always open to this we have surprised our most loyal customers. Even during the pandemic, we were able to keep it open since then tobacconist“.

However, many of these activities are proceeding slowly disappearsdespite the fact that they represent a reference point for small communitieswho manage to take you back in time with their “family atmosphere” which is about to be lost, as Calvi Bar in Terragnolo in Trentino, an example of that The Dolomites had spoken.
